I recall reading a humorous quotation on a monsoon evening that poked fun at men. It went like this:
"Please don't be so romantic. We don't have cool boyfriends who'll take us on a romantic ride. We have husbands who'll ask us to head to the kitchen and prepare tea and pakodas."- All wives.
This quote brought back memories of my own experiences.
To organize and safeguard our cherished memories, I've created year-wise archives on my personal blog. On a quarterly basis, I upload a selection of photos and videos to the blog, which are subsequently transferred from our mobile devices to an external hard drive for secure storage.
Yesterday afternoon, I skipped my nap to upload this quarter's pictures to my blog. Just as I was engrossed in my task, the skies opened up, and it started raining heavily in Mysore around 3 pm. My wife, normally a light sleeper, was fast asleep, likely due to the festive food she had enjoyed at her friend's place earlier. I quickly rushed to the backyard to rescue the dried clothes from the sudden downpour.
Honestly, I've never differentiated between household chores, whether it's brewing coffee, chopping vegetables, or cooking meals. However, my wife holds a traditional view that food preparation is a woman's domain, and she lovingly doesn't allow me to intervene, reserving this task for herself.
Let's set aside the household chores which I voluntarily take on to stay physically active. The focus here is on cooking. Despite decades together, I still struggle to grasp or align with my wife's perspective on this matter.
Is not allowing me to prepare food, convey any of the following:
- Is it her territorialism about cooking duties?
- or.. Is it her personal preference or comfort with being the primary cook?
- or.. Is it fear of her losing control or agency in the kitchen
- or.. Do I prepare food so bad?
- or.. Is my preparation tastier?
- or.. Do I mess up in keeping the 10+ containers improperly after use.
- or.. Do I prepare less than the required or more than the required quantity.
- or.. Is it her desire to maintain traditional roles?
- or.. Honestly, she doesn't like me to prepare food.
- or....?

The remark in the picture👆looks like a joke, but in reality it is not so.
