Kannada Organisations in the USA
Remember the Republican President George Bush administration’s Immigration Act of 1990 on H1B visa which paved the way for most of our IT boys and girls to immigrate to the USA. The Indian diaspora has considerably increased during the past 30 years. And naturally the different linguistic cultured immigrants of Bharat have formed their own organisations like Kannada Sangha, Telugu Sangha, Tamil Sangham, Gujarathi Sangh etc.
The Association of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA) is a non-profit organisation that promotes Kannada culture, language, and community in the United States. AKKA brings together Kannada-speaking people from various parts of America, fostering a sense of community and cultural identity. The s hosts cultural events, festivals, and activities to preserve and showcase Kannada heritage. AKKA also provides a platform for networking, socializing, and supporting the interests of the Kannada community in the US. By promoting Kannada culture and language, AKKA aims to strengthen ties among its members and contribute to the rich cultural diversity of America.
The Association of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA) has state-level chapters across the USA, with each state hosting its own Kannada organisation. Notably, Utah is home to one such affiliated organisation.
In the western United States, Utah is home to a thriving Kannada community, with over 300 families residing in and around Salt Lake City, the state capital. The Sri Ganesh Hindu Temple in South Jordan serves as a central gathering place for these families, fostering a sense of community and cultural connection.
The temple also has deities of shiva, vishnu etc. The Utah Kannada Koota organisation is bringing the various Kannada families together through conducting five to six programs in a year.
