My daughter, Chaitra Rao wasn't working as she was mainly taking care of the kids. But her passion for teaching and music led her to conduct classes at home twice a week for children, coaching them in music and Devaranama. She graciously shared her earnings with me from time to time, which I've prudently saved as fixed deposits in the bank. As a 'swabhimani' myself, I've ensured that her earnings remain intact. I look forward to returning her earnings with interest in the future as a gesture of appreciation and love.
As her children grew, she felt bored at home. In 2021, she embarked on a new challenge, pursuing a two-year certificate course in cardiovascular sonography at a Dallas college. She specialized in 'Ecotech' and leveraged her master's degree in Biotechnology from the University of Mysore to secure exemptions in some papers. Apart from theory, the course required nearly 800 hours of practical experience, which she completed alongside 20 exams over two years, accumulating almost 900 practical hours. Her exceptional Ecotech teacher and supportive surgeon mentor, both with practices near her home, provided invaluable guidance.
Beyond her studies, she continued teaching music and Devaranama. Her passion for music also led her to provide free community service for Bhagavad Gita celebrations (online), organized by Girish from Canada. My daughter assists in teaching children the correct recitation of traditional texts, a 3-4 month program. This initiative preserves our cultural heritage and encourages parental involvement.
During Gita Jayanti month, a day is chosen to celebrate Bhagavad Gita recitations by participants from the USA, Canada, and Australia. Lalitha expertly handles anchoring, while Girish provides insightful explanations.
Over the past year, she has been working on a contract basis, dedicating 3-4 days a week (part-time hours) to several clinics. Despite being part-time, her work is highly rewarding. As she has cleared two board exams after securing her college certificate, she earns a substantial $55 per patient, involving about 25 minutes of work in Primary Clinics, while the Private Clinics pay her $55 per hour. Occasionally, she assists the surgeon at the operation theater, further leveraging her expertise. She skillfully balances her work schedule to ensure she can still care for her children.
