Want to know the fact that how Vyasaraja Mutt, Rayara Mutt and Uttaradi Mutt got formed ?

My appeal to all followers of Vyasaraja Mutt, Rayara Mutt, and Uttaradi Mutt is that Madhwas should refrain from simply asserting that their respective mutt is the first and original one. Let us avoid opinions and arguments. Furthermore, let us accord equal status to other Brahmin sub-sects, such as Smarthas, Iyengars, Iyers, Sanketis, and others. All are equal.

Let us uphold and respect Brahmin culture. We should celebrate Brahmin festivals, regardless of whether we choose to indulge in मिष्ठान्न भोजन (sweet delicacies) or observe fasting on those festive days.

The time has come to assess the current state of affairs in the Brahmin community, and we must work together to build a community founded on strong values. By doing so, we will provide guidance and a positive legacy for the present young generation and future generations to come.

Secondly, I applaud the Puthige Mutt pontiff for his remarkable efforts in expanding the mutt's presence overseas, where many of our young and middle-aged Madhwa community members reside. He has emerged as a guiding force not only for Madhwas but also for other Brahmin sub-sects. In my opinion, it is time for us to refrain from stating that Saptasamudra travel (सप्तसमुद्र प्रयाण) is unacceptable.

Now let us see how three big Mutts got formed.

Part One 

1. Shri Madhwacharyaru 

2. Shri Padmanabha Teertharu 

(disciple of Shri Madhwacharyaru)

3. Shri Narahari Teertharu 

(disciple of Madhwacharyaru)

4. Shri Madhava Teertharu 

(disciple of Madhwacharyaru)

5. Shri Akshobhya Teertharu 

(disciple of Madhwacharyaru)

All the above headed the Mutt one after another in the above order.

6. Shri Jaya Teertharu (disciple of 5. Shri Akshobhya Teertharu)

7. Shri Vidyadhiraja Teertharu (disciple of 6. Shri Jaya Teertharu) 

Yati No. 7, Shri Vidyadhiraja Teertharu was the head of Mutt (name of this mutt.. let us not discuss) and was stationed in Yeragola, near Malkhed, near Gulbarga.

Mutt Splits into two in the year 1392 because - 

Shri Vidyadhiraja Teertharu had two sanyasi shishyas. 

- first disciple is Shri. Rajendra Teertharu (Yati 8 Vyasaraja Mutt)

- second disciple is Shri. Kaveendra Teertharu (Yati 8 in Rayara Mutt and Uttaradi Mutt)

Yati No. 8, Shri Rajendra Teertharu became pontiff of this first  Mutt. The parampara of the first disciple Shri Rajendra Teertharu headed mutt, came to be known as Poorvadi Mutt. The same parampara was later (after the year 1539) called by the name Shri Vyasaraja Mutt because of the illustrious Shri Vyasaraja Teertharu who adorned the peetha. 

Part Two

The second disciple of Shri Vidyadhiraja Theertharu is Shri Kaveendra Theertharu. This Yati No. 8, Shri Kaveendra Teertharu headed the Second Mutt (name of mutt then, sorry, let us not discuss).  

This Second  Mutt Yati No. 9 is Shri Vageesha Teertharu.

This Second Mutt Yati No. 10 is Shri Ramachandra Teertharu.

Now again this Second Mutt Splits in year 1435 because -

Yati No. 10 Shri Ramachandra Teertharu had two sanyasi shishyas. 

- The first disciple is Shri Vibudhendra Teertharu (Yati No. 11 in Rayara Mutt) 

- The second disciple is Shri Vidyanidhi Teertharu (Yati No. 11 in Uttaradi Mutt)

The parampara of the disciple,  Shri Vibudhendra Teertharu (Yati No. 11 in Second Mutt) later came to be known (after the year 1671) by the name Shri Raghavendra Swami Mutt or Rayara Mutt because of the great yati, Shri Raghavendra Teertharu who adorned the peeTha. 

The lineage of Shri Vidyanidhi Teertharu came to be known as Uttaradi Mutt.

Part Three

Yati No. 1 to Yati No. 7 (please see part one) are common for Vyasaraja Mutt and Rayara Mutt and Uttaradi Mutt.

Not to get confused - Yati No. 8 Shri Kaveendra Teertharu, Yati No. 9 Shri Vageesha Teertharu and Yati No.10 Shri Ramachandra Teertharu are common to Rayara Mutt and Uttaradi Mutt.

Part Four

There are 26+ mutts. The latest being, Prayag Madhwa Mutt, Prayag,  formed by Vidyamanyaru of Palimaru Mutt (also of Bhandarakeri Mutt).  Shri Vidyamanyaru anointed Sri Vidyavallabharu (Kushtagi Ramachar) as the first pontiff of this new mutt.
