ಕಾರ್ಗತ್ತಲಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳ್ಳನ ಬೆಳದಿಂಗಳಾ 

ಬೆಳಕನ್ನು ಕಂಡಂತೆ 

ಮುಂದೊಂದು ದಿನದ ಬಾಳಿನಾಸರೆಯಾ 

ಮಗನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡೆ 

ಪುತ್ರರತ್ನನಿಗೆ ಏನೆಲ್ಲ 

ಸವಲತ್ತುಗಳ ಧಾರೆ ಎರೆದೆ 

ನಮಗೆಲ್ಲ ದಾರಿದೀಪನಾಗುವ 

ದಿನಗಳನೇ ಕಾತರದಿಂದ ಕಾದೆ

ವಿದ್ಯಾವಂತನಾದಂತೆ 

ಮಗನಲ್ಲಿ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳನು ಕಂಡೆ

ಅವನ ಜೀವನದ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 

ಮಾರ್ಪಾಟುಗಳನು ಕಂಡೆ 

ಏರುತ್ತಿರುವ ಅಸುರಕ್ಷಿತ ದಿನಗಳಲಿ

ಇಳಿಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ತಂದೆ ತಾಯಿಯ ಮೇಲಿನ 

ಪ್ರೀತಿ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಗಳನು 

ಕಾಣಲು ಇಷ್ಟವಿರದಿದ್ದರೂ ಕಂಡೆ 

ಬಾಳಿನಾಸರೆಗೆಂದು 

ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಏಳಿಗೆಗಳಲಿ 

ಅವರ ಆಕಾಂಕ್ಷೆಗಳಲಿ 

ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಕಾಣದಿರಿ 

ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ ಮಾತ್ರ ಪಾಲಿಸಿರಿ

Duty Over Expectation - Imaginative poem

As in the deep darkness, 

a flash of white moonlight is seen, 

So in my son, 

the future support for my life, I've foreseen.

For this precious son, 

every comfort I did bestow, 

I waited anxiously for the day 

he would light the way, and grow.

As he grew educated and wise, 

I saw the changes flicker in his gaze; 

In the very style of his life, before my eyes, 

I watched his habits take on different ways.

In these rising days of dark insecurity, 

The descending love and trust for parents, 

I could not evade; 

Though I wished not to see such fading loyalty, 

I saw it, and felt afraid.

Seeking in children's growth a final rest, 

In their ambitions, do not see your own need; 

Cast your own self-interest from the test, 

Perform only your duty, sow the honest seed.
